How to Register

Registering with GiftList.co.uk couldn’t be easier! Simply click the “Register” button in the top-right of the page:

You’ll then be presented with a page where you fill in your first name, last name, email address and choose a password:

Once you’ve done that and clicked Submit, we’ll then send you an email asking you to confirm your registration.

The email will contain a link. Simply click the link (or if your email client doesn’t let you do this, you can copy and paste the URL into your browser’s address bar), and that’s you activated!

When you click the link to log in and start using GiftList.co.uk, you’ll be taken to a page where you can enter the username and password you just gave us:

Once you’ve logged in, you can either Create Your Profile which will tell us a bit more about you and help your friends to find you more easily, or you can go ahead and create your first List!

How to Create a List

Once you have logged into the site, you’ll be able to create your first Gift List. To do this, simply click on “Set Up a List” towards the top-left of the page:

You will then be taken to the Create a List page. From here, you can tell us the name of your List, the type of List (this is the occasion that the List if for e.g. birthday, Christmas, wedding etc.), the Occasion Date (the date that the event is taking place, so people know when you need it for!)

You then have two options called “Indexable” and “Show Taken”. If you leave “Indexable” selected, it means that search engines such as Google, Bing and Yahoo will be able to see your List. We recommend that you leave this selected, as it will make your List easier for your friends to find.

The “Show Taken” option means that your List page will include a section that shows what people have already bought for you. If you leave this on, there’s less chance of you getting duplicate presents, but it does mean you will know what you’ll be getting on your special day!

Finally, you choose your List Access Type which is Public or Private. If you choose Public, it means that your Friends won’t have to log into the site to see your List. However, if you’d like to make sure that only your selected Contacts can see your List, then choose Private. If you choose “Private”, you will be given the option to select which Contact Categories can see your List.

Once you have created your List, you’ll then be taken to your List page, where you can start adding Gifts!

How to Add a Gift to My List

Adding a Gift to your Gift List couldn’t be easier! Once you are logged into the site, you can simply search for a Product, and when you find the one that you want, add it to your Gift List.

To search for a Product, you can use the search bar towards the top-right of the site:

If you want to search within one of our specific categories, you can choose one. However, if you don’t, the search will simply cover all categories. Then just type in a search term and click “Go”!

You will then be taken to the search result page, which will include options for further filtering the results. You can use the “Choose Affiliate” dropdown list to limit the results to one of our many affiliate partners. You can also use our Price Slider to limit the price range of the results. You can then click Search to update the results below.

The search results are a list of all the Products that match the search criteria you have supplied, ordered by relevance. Each search result will look like this:

If you’d like to see more information on the product, you can click “View”. If you’d like to go straight to our affiliate partner’s website and buy it, you can click “Buy”. If you’d like to go ahead and add it straight to your list, just click “Add to My List” (hint: if you don’t see the “Add to My List” link, it will be because you are not logged into the site).

Clicking “Add to My List” will pop up the following window:

Simply select your Gift List from the dropdown list provided, then click “Add to List”. And that’s it!

At GiftList.co.uk, we do appreciate that you don’t always know exactly what you want, so we’ve given you the means to tell your friends roughly what you’d like without actually choosing a specific product, or even just asking for a surprise!

Clicking “Manage a List” at the top of the page will take you to your profile page. From there, you will be able to see all the Gift List’s you have set up. Clicking on one of those Lists will take you to your List page, where you can view the Gifts you have already added:

If you click “Add a Gift Idea”, the following window will pop up:

Choosing “I Know What I Want” means you need to fill in the “Idea Type” box. For example, if you knew you wanted a White Shirt, but you don’t mind exactly which shirt it is, then you could select “I Know What I Want”, enter “White Shirt” into the Idea Type box, then click Add to List.

Your friends will then be able to click on this Gift on your Gift List, and the site will automatically search for matching products for them.

If you really don’t know what you want and would just like a surprise, then you could just choose “Surprise Me!” and optionally enter a hint into the “Idea Type” box. Then your friends will know that you want something, but what you get will remain a mystery!

How to Find My Friend’s List

If you know that your friend has a gift list set up on GiftList.co.uk, and you want to find it so you can see what he / she would like for their special occasion, you can do that using the Find a List section of GiftList.co.uk. You can access this by clicking “Find a List” in the middle of the top bar on GiftList.co.uk:

Once on the Find a List page, you can search by List Name, List Category, User’s Name, User’s Email and a Minimum / Maximum Event Date.

Once you’ve filled in your search criteria, you can click Search and you’ll be presented with a selection of matching Gift Lists.

Clicking the List Name will then take you off to the List Page, where you can view all of the Gifts on the “My Gifts” tab.

Please note that it is possible that your Friend has marked their List as “Private”. If this is the case, then you will need to be logged into GiftList.co.uk, and your friend must have added you as a Contact. Otherwise you will be unable to see your Friend’s list.

How to Buy a Gift for a Friend

Once you have found your friend’s List, you can look at the Gifts on it, and decide which one to get for them.

If the Gift they have added is for a product on the site, you can simply click on the title on the Gift and you will be taken to the Gift page, which will include full details on the Product.

Clicking the “Buy Gift” button will then launch a window which asks you to confirm that you would like to buy the Gift.

Clicking “Confirm Gift Purchase” will record the purchase against your friend’s Gift List, and will redirect you to our affiliate partner’s website, where you can complete the gift purchase at their check-out.

If you decide you do not want to purchase the Gift, then clicking “Cancel” will return you to the Gift page without performing the purchase.

How to Search for Products

Whether you are adding gifts to your own List, searching for gift ideas, or simply browsing the site, searching for a gift on GiftList.co.uk couldn’t be easier.

On every page of the site, in the top-right you will be the search panel.

From here, all you have to do is select your chosen category (this is optional – if you don’t choose one, we’ll just search all categories for you), type what you’re looking for into the search box, and then click Go or press the Enter key on your keyboard.

This will then take you to the search results page, where we’ll show you all the products we’ve found that match what you’ve specified, ordered by relevance.

From here, you can further refine the results, by selecting which of our many affiliate partners’ products you wish to view, or limit the price using the price slider.

For ease of browsing, we show 12 products per page, and you can use the page numbers to click through to other pages of results.

Results are displayed below, and you will be show the name of the product, its supplier, its price and a small image showing what it looks like.

If you click the “View” button, you will be taken to a page that lists all the information we have about the product. If you decide you would like to buy the Product, click the “Buy” button and you will be taken straight to our affiliate partners’ website, where you can go ahead and complete the purchase.
